Deborah Cox to Star in Broadway-Bound Josephine

Singer-songwriter Deborah Cox, who starred in the title role of the Broadway production of Aida, will portray the late, legendary Josephine Baker in the new Broadway-bound musical Josephine.

Theatre and production dates will be announced at a later time.

The new musical based on the life of the iconic entertainer who dazzled Paris audiences will be directed and choreographed by Joey McKneely, who was Tony-nominated for Best Choreography for both The Life and Smokey Joe's Cafe.

Josephine features music by Steve Dorff, lyrics by John Bettis and a book by Ellen Weston and Mark Hampton.

The musical, according to press notes, is "inspired by actual events, and takes place in Paris between 1939 and 1945: Josephine Baker is queen of the Paris music halls, involved in a liaison with Crown Prince Gustav VI of Sweden and secretly serving her adopted country in the French Resistance. Her heroic work during the war brings her the self-worth she so vainly sought in fame, money and the arms of royalty."

Kristine W Releases New Album
New York, NY: Kristine W’s highly anticipated fourth full-length studio album, The Power of Music, will be available on i-Tunes, Masterbeat.com and in retail stores nationwide on June 9, 2009.  The CD has already proven its power on the dance scene with its first four single releases -Walk Away”, “The Boss”, “Never”, and “Love is the Look” - landing the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play List.  “Be Alright”, Kristine’s next single from the album, will be released commercially and to terrestrial, satellite and internet mainstream radio on May 26th. “Making The Power of Music was truly a labor of love,” explained Kristine W from her home in Las Vegas.   She describes the album as a journey through a kaleidoscope of musical styles - dance, pop, R&B and rock – that capture the rollercoaster of emotions people are feeling during this turbulent time in history.  “With the financial crisis hitting every country and political instability reaching all time highs, I wanted to write and sing songs that expressed how people are feeling and encouraged optimism.” In “Be Alright”, Kristine sings: “When hard times bring us to our knees, we stand in the shadow of blind faith and we say ‘Hey, it’s going to be alright.’”   The message is of hope triumphing over difficulty, a theme she also explores in “We Will Meet Again” and the album’s title track, “The Power of Music”. “Never preaches inner strength and joy while “Groove’s Inside” explains how a person’s attitude dictates how they view life and ultimately, how they live it.   Kristine sings, “This is your life, get up and live it, you know the clock won’t wait, leave your cares behind, because the groove’s inside your mind.”       The 16-track album features some of the music industry’s most influential players including Grammy-nominated producers Love To Infinity UK (Madonna, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Will Smith), Grammy Award winning producer Hex Hector (Donna Summer, Patti LaBelle, Diana Ross, Mariah Carey, Shakira), guitar legend George Lynch (of Dokken and Lynch Mob), and a performance by the world renown rapper, Big Daddy Kane, who lends his talents to the album’s title track.Hailing from Washington State, Kristine W is a fourth generation musician.  She has sold over 300,000 albums and singles in the USA and her songs have been licensed to over 150 compilation CDs.In the late 1990s, Kristine W hit the top of the national dance music charts for the first with the now classic “Feel What You Want.”  Her most recent single, “Love is the Look”, released this January,  is her thirteenth #1.  With it, Kristine edged out Whitney Houston to claim fifth place among artists with multiple #1s on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play List. Madonna tops the chart with 39 #1s, followed by Janet Jackson with 18. Donna Summer is third with 15, followed by Mariah Carey with 14, and then Kristine W with 13.   Houston now ranks in 6th place, behind Kristine W, with 12 #1s.

DEBORAH COX RETURNS WITH NEW ALBUM
Platinum-selling recording artist Deborah Cox returns with her first new studio album in six years, THE PROMISE, to be released in November on Deco Recording Group/Image Entertainment.  The album marks the former Clive Davis protégé’s return to the world of R&B, where her hit song "Nobody's Supposed to Be Here," broke the record for the longest-running number one single on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

Led by the Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis and Big Jim Wright-produced first single, "Did You Ever Love Me?,” the poignant, soulful slow-burning R&B song is a reflection on a relationship that has just ended.  The song impacts radio in August and will be available for sale at iTunes and other digital retailers on August 26.  The song can be previewed now at www.deborahcox.com and www.myspace.com/deborahcox

Showcasing Cox’s amazing powerhouse vocals, the album features production by an all-star team of collaborators, including John Legend (Alicia Keys, Lauryn Hill), Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis (Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson), Big Jim Wright (Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey), Shep Crawford (Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross), Devo Springsteen (Kanye West, Estelle) and the Avila Brothers (Toni Braxton, Gwen Stefani).

“The R&B fans were the first to embrace me and help me get to where I am today,” says Deborah.  “I have been fortunate enough to be able to explore other genres of music, but I really missed doing R&B and thought it was time to return to it.”

Some of the tracks to be featured on the album include, “All Over Me” (“It’s a very sexy song. I think it will surprise people because it explores a level of sensuality that I’ve never expressed in a song before,” Cox says); “Beautiful U R,” a mid-tempo uplifting track discussing self-love and acceptance; and “The Promise,” a beautiful, simple ballad describing where Deborah is today in her life (“It’s all about commitment to myself, my family, friends and those who have supported and been there for me,” she says).

A multi-talented entertainer, Cox has conquered the R&B and pop charts, including six top-20 Billboard R&B singles, an impressive nine #1 hits on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play chart and a starring role in Elton John and Tim Rice's Broadway musical, Aida. Having also appeared in films and television, Deborah released a tribute album to the legendary Dinah Washington last year on Universal.
